Top 5 Wide Receiver Performances of Week 10 College Football: LaJohntay Wester, Xavier Legette, more

Week 10 of college football is over and we saw a number of impressive performances this week. 10 wide receivers went for over 150 yards. Some of those players are mentioned below, but a quick shoutout to the players who aren't: Tejhaun Palmer (UAB), Malik Nabers (LSU), Trayvon Rudolph (Northern Illinois), Ricky White (UNLV), Chrishon McCray (Kent State), and Roc Taylor (Memphis).

One thing I want to do every week here (since there's not an article specifically for them) is shout out the top tight end of the week. This week, that honor goes to Bowling Green's Harold Fannin Jr., who caught five passes for 92 yards and a touchdown in a 24-21 victory over Ball State.

Below are the top five wide receiver performances from Week 10 of the college football season. These are judged through a combination of statistics, fantasy scoring, and game context, with consideration also given based on the team's offensive systems. Let's take a look at this week's top performances.

5. Chris Lewis - Troy

Troy defeated South Alabama 28-10 on Thursday night. Three of those touchdowns came from wide receiver Chris Lewis, who caught four passes for 120 yards and three scores.

It was the second time this season that Lewis had 100-plus receiving yards in a game and the first time that he caught more than one touchdown.

On the year, Johnson has caught 22 passes for 535 yards and seven touchdowns. While he hasn't necessarily had a breakout campaign in his first season with Troy after playing eight games for Kentucky last year, Lewis has had a solid campaign.

4. Tez Johnson - Oregon

Oregon blew the roof off of Cal this weekend, knocking the Golden Bears off 63-19. Quarterback Bo Nix was masterful again, completing over 70% of his passes once again, something he's done in every game this season.

Nix threw four touchdowns, with two of those going to Tez Johnson, including a 48-yard touchdown that opened the scoring in the first quarter. Overall, Johnson caught 12 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns.

The former Troy wideout hadn't recorded a 100-yard game since joining Oregon at the start of this season, though he did have two touchdowns against Hawaii. He's recorded 599 yards on the season, which ranks 10th in the Pac-12. He's also eighth in the conference in receiving touchdowns. His biggest impact has been on special teams, as he's second in the conference in punt return yards.

3. Tre Harris - Ole Miss

Ole Miss took down Texas A&M in an exciting game on Saturday, with the Rebels coming away with a 38-35 win, capped off by a go-ahead rushing touchdown with 1:40 to play from Quinshon Judkins.

But while it was the run game that put the team over the top, with Judkins finding the end zone three times, wide receiver Tre Harris had a huge game as well. The fourth-year wide receiver caught 11 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's win.

This was the fourth time this season that Harris has had over 100 receiving yards. One note is that he hasn't done that in back-to-back games yet, so we'll see what Harris does next week against No. 1 Georgia. The Rebels need a big game from him to get the road upset.

2. Xavier Legette - South Carolina

I really think Xavier Legette is the best story in college fooball this year. He's stuck around Columbia for five seasons despite never having more than 18 receptions in a season in any of his first four years. But Legette put the work in and has broken out this season for South Carolina.

On Saturday, he had himself a game, and I mean a game. Over his first four seasons, Legette's career high in receiving yards was 167. This week, he had 217 yards in the team's 38-28 win over Jacksonville State. He caught nine passes in the game and had a pair of touchdowns.

Legette is now up to 50 catches for 973 yards and five touchdowns this season. He sits third in the SEC in yards per catch and fourth in receptions. Even more impressive, Legette is sixth in the FBS in receiving yards.

1. LaJohntay Wester - Florida Atlantic

FAU wideout LaJohntay Wester tops this week's list of the top wide receiver performances after his huge effort against UAB on Saturday. While the Owls came up on the losing end, you can't blame that loss on Wester, as he did as much as he could in the game.

Wester caught 11 passes for 219 yards this week, with three of those going for touchdowns. But that wasn't the end of the scoring for Wester, as he also added a three-yard touchdown run as well.

This marked the third time in the last four games that Wester has at least 10 catches and 123 receiving yards. The fourth-year wide receiver is having an incredible season, catching 87 passes for 1,004 yards and eight scores through the first nine games of the 2023 season. He leads the American in receiving yards and leads FBS in receptions.
