Matthew Stafford Out, Brett Rypien To Start For Rams
1 year agoLos Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (thumb) will officially be inactive in Week 9 against the Green Bay Packers. As a result, backup Brett Rypien will make the start under center, according to a source. Things had been trending this way ever since Stafford was diagnosed with a sprained UCL in his right thumb after getting hurt in the Week 8 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The move from Stafford to Rypien will be a serious downgrade for LA's offense, especially for top pass-catchers Cooper Kupp and rookie Puka Nacua (knee), who is questionable to play with a knee injury. The Packers defense is pretty forgiving, but Rypien shouldn't be considered as anything more than a desperation low-end QB2 option for fantasy managers in superflex formats. With a bye coming in Week 10, there's a chance Stafford could be ready to go in Week 11.
