Caris LeVert Fantasy Basketball Outlook
Cleveland Cavaliers wing Caris LeVert has seen heavy minutes to open the 2023-24 NBA season. While part of that is because he got the start on Saturday with Donovan Mitchell sidelined and played 44 minutes, he played 30-plus minutes off the bench in the team's first two games.
The big thing that appeals to me about LeVert right now in fantasy is his volume. In his two games off the bench, he's averaged 16.5 field goal attempts per game. In his start, he took 28 field goal attempts. The Cavaliers are getting LeVert the basketball and he's putting up shots. He's taken at least eight three-pointers in all three of Cleveland's games.
LeVert also had five or more assists in two-thirds of his games, as well as a steal in each game. He's averaging 19.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game.
Is Caris LeVert A Good Fantasy Basketball Pickup?
While LeVert will be back to the bench once Mitchell is back from his hamstring injury, the fact that he's still averaging 14.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game as a reserve means he should still be considered a strong addition off the waiver wire this week.
LeVert might not help fantasy managers out in the assist category on a nightly basis like he did in Saturday's starts, but anyone who needs some scoring, threes, and steals should have their eyes on Caris LeVert. The biggest downside is that he might end up hurting you in field goal percentage, but if that's a risk you can manage or if you play in a points league, LeVert's a strong option.
