At P2, Ty Gibbs Now A Top Play At Martinsville
1 year agoOn Saturday afternoon, Ty Gibbs followed up an impressive practice session by qualifying second in the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Given that he has an average finish of 18.7 in his two Cup starts at Martinsville, you may be tempted to fade the second-generation driver, but I would discourage you from doing this. While it is true his Cup series performances at this track have been underwhelming, he did win the fall Xfinity race here last season, a feat that shows that he can handle himself on the "Paperclip." What is of further interest, however, is his starting position. Since 2020, drivers starting in P2 at Martinsville have averaged 63.38 points on DraftKings. Considering he showed tremendous speed on Saturday, that he has been on the brink of a breakout all season long, and that he has a starting position that has a favorable history, I think it would be wise to load up on the No. 54 this weekend in DFS.
