Nick Chubb Latest Injury Update - November 15
The Cleveland Browns announced on Tuesday that running back Nick Chubb (knee) had a second successful surgery on his left knee to fix his torn ACL. Chubb's first surgery back on Sept. 29 was to fix his meniscus and MCL.
The 27-year-old suffered a brutal season-ending left-knee injury against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 18 and will now spent the rest of the year rehabbing to try and make it back in 2024. In his absence, Jerome Ford has taken over as the team's lead back, while Kareem Hunt and Pierre Strong Jr. have also seen their roles drastically increase in Cleveland's backfield. It remains to be seen if Chubb will actually be ready for the start of the 2024 regular season next fall.
Nick Chubb Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Nick Chubb had surgery on his torn MCL back on Sept. 29. He is still expected to undergo surgery for his torn ACL, though it's unclear when that surgery will take place.
Because of the nature of Nick Chubb's injury, he is not expected to return until the 2024 season. It's not clear at this point if Chubb will even be ready for the start of 2024.
Needless to say, Nick Chubb won't be back on an NFL field this season. Jerome Ford, Kareem Hunt, and Pierre Strong will continue to split carries for the remainder of the 2023 season.
Nick Chubb Fantasy Football Outlook
Nick Chubb is one of the NFL's best running backs when healthy, but this injury puts serious doubt into his long-term future. Chubb will be 28 years old when he returns next year and will be coming off a devastating knee injury. There's no guarantee that Chubb will be nearly as effective, especially with his high workload during his time in Cleveland. Chubb has 1,238 carries and another 123 receptions in the NFL.
Going forward in 2023, Jerome Ford is the top back in Cleveland if he remains healthy, while Kareem Hunt is also a viable fantasy option. Pierre Strong doesn't have as much fantasy value as the other two, but he has flashed in recent weeks.
Ford was questionable heading into Week 8, but he appears to be fine since he suited up.
