When the Houston Texans signed running back Devin Singletary, not many people thought much of it. But after six games, the veteran back continues to eat into Dameon Pierce's workload.
Pierce has not been the workhorse that all fantasy managers imagined coming into the year, and that is due to Singetary's involvement on offense. The 26-year-old back is also coming off a season-best game in Week 6.
But should I pick up Singletary? What did he do in Week 6? Let's dive in.
What Did Devin Singletary Do In Week 6?
Since the Texans had a bye in Week 7, fantasy managers might have forgotten what Singletary did in Week 6 against the New Orleans Saints. In that contest, though, the veteran back played a season-high 54% of the Texans offensive snaps. He also had 12 carries for 58 yards on the ground and one catch for four yards through the air.
It was a shock to see Singletary get as much usage as he did in Week 6. He out-snapped Pierce, 34-21, for the first time this season and was much more efficient with his touches.
Singletary averaged 4.83 yards per carry in the contest compared to Pierce's 2.62 yards per carry (13 carries for 34 yards). On the season, the former also averages more yards per carry (3.92) than the latter (2.9). If Singletary continues to run the ball well, we could see him get much more involved.
Is Devin Singletary A Good Fantasy Football Pickup For Week 8?
With Houston being off in Week 7, Singletary might still be on your waivers. But he isn't worth a high waiver wire priority. If you need running back help or have Pierce on your roster, he is then a solid add in 12-plus team leagues.
It was definitely a plus to see his snaps and usage go up from the prior weeks. However, it appears Houston's backfield is a complete committee, and it will be hard to predict which Texan will emerge every week. Even with Singletary seeing 54% of the team snaps, that only correlated to 7.2 PPR fantasy points.
Singletary has zero games above 10 PPR fantasy points this season, and he's hard to trust moving forward. Keep an eye on his usage in the coming weeks. But for now, he can stay on your waivers -- unless you really need a running back in 12-plus team leagues.
