Travis Kelce Injury Update
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (ankle) practiced fully on Wednesday as his team gears up for a Week 7 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Kelce suffered an ankle injury back in Week 5 but wound up playing through the pain to post a nine-catch, 124-yard game in a Week 6 win over the Denver Broncos. Kelce's ability to practice fully on Wednesday indicates that he is now mostly, if not totally, over the ankle issue.
Despite fighting through an early-season knee injury and now the ankle, the star tight end is putting together another quality season with 36 catches for 346 yards and three touchdowns in five games. (Chiefs.com)
Sam LaPorta Injury Update
Detroit Lions rookie tight end Sam LaPorta (calf) was listed as limited in the team's walkthrough practice on Wednesday. LaPorta was a late-week addition to the injury report in Week 6 and was listed as questionable against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with his calf injury. He eventually played and caught just four of a season-high-tying 11 targets for 36 yards a week after scoring two touchdowns.
As long as LaPorta doesn't suffer a setback in practice this week, fantasy managers should have him locked into their starting lineups for a Week 7 tilt against the Ravens in Baltimore this Sunday. The 22-year-old has been very impressive in his first NFL campaign and is the TE2 in overall fantasy points in half-PPR scoring through six weeks, behind only Travis Kelce. (DetroitLions.com)
Dallas Goedert Injury Update
Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert (groin) was limited in practice on Wednesday with a groin injury. Goedert spent some time in the blue medical tent during his team's Week 6 loss to the New York Jets, which could be where he picked up the groin issue that was hindering him on Wednesday.
Fantasy managers counting on the Philly tight end will want to monitor practice reports for the remainder of the week as the Eagles gear up to face off against the Miami Dolphins. If Goedert can't play, expect Jack Stoll to see some extra snaps.
Pat Freiermuth Injury Update
Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth (hamstring) practiced in full on Wednesday and is trending towards suiting up for Sunday's Week 7 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. The third-year tight end missed the Steelers' Week 5 win over the Baltimore Ravens with a hamstring issue but should be ready to go for Week 7, barring any setbacks in practice this week.
Freiermuth has eight catches (13 targets) for 53 yards and two touchdowns in four games this season and would rank as a TE2 in Week 7. The Steelers' passing attack is nothing special and the target pie will shrink even more with the likely return of wide receiver Diontae Johnson (hamstring) this week.
Hunter Henry Injury Update
New England Patriots tight end Hunter Henry (ankle) was not spotted during the media-access portion of practice on Wednesday. Henry was injured in the Week 6 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders and finished that contest with only one catch for seven yards on three targets. He wasn't able to catch either of his two targets the previous week in the blowout loss to the New Orleans Saints. The 28-year-old is a favorite of quarterback Mac Jones in the red zone, but the problem is the Pats offense has rarely visited the red zone this year.
Now that Henry is dealing with an injury, he's definitely one to avoid as a tight end streamer for a Week 7 contest against the Buffalo Bills. If Henry doesn't return to practice this week, Mike Gesicki would see a bigger workload, but even then, this New England offense hasn't inspired any confidence in fantasy managers.
Greg Dulcich Injury Update
Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton said that the team is still evaluating if tight end Greg Dulcich (hamstring) needs to go back on Injured Reserve after aggravating his hamstring injury in last Thursday's loss to the division-rival Kansas City Chiefs. Dulcich did not practice on Wednesday. The 23-year-old suffered a hamstring injury in the season opener and went on IR before returning for Week 6 to catch one pass for a three-yard gain.
Dulcich has had issues with his hamstring dating back to his rookie year in 2022, when he missed seven games. At the very least, he's unlikely to play in Week 7 against the Green Bay Packers and could miss even more time. Adam Trautman would revert to a bigger role yet again, but he's not worth pursuing off the waiver wire.
Juwan Johnson Injury Update
New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson (calf) has been ruled out for Week 7 on Thursday night against the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars. Johnson has yet to practice or play since suffering a calf injury in pre-game warmups before the Week 4 contest.
Continue to leave the 27-year-old on the waiver wire in the vast majority of fantasy leagues. In Johnson's absence, Taysom Hill saw a career-high eight targets in the Week 6 loss to the Houston Texans, but it will be hard to expect a repeat in back-to-back weeks, even in a good matchup against Jacksonville. Along with Hill, Foster Moreau and veteran Jimmy Graham will continue to be mixed in at the position for the Saints.
