For a five-game period in 2019, Tyler Higbee played like one of the best tight ends in the NFL and parlayed that hot streak into a multimillion-dollar contract. Fantasy football managers have been waiting four years for him to play like again, but I think it is finally time to give up on that.
Higbee racked up 43 receptions for 522 yards and two touchdowns over that scintillating stretch that put him on the fantasy map, but he has never come close to producing those types of numbers in recent years. He has been lost in the target shuffle with the Los Angeles Rams. Top target and perennial No. 1 WR Cooper Kupp has dominated the target total, which has left Higbee fighting with the rest of the receiving corps for the scraps left over.
So should you drop Higbee if you have him on your fantasy roster? Here is my take!

Should I Drop Tyler Higbee in Week 7?
Yes, Higbee can be dropped. He has shown no signs of having another fantastic five-game stretch anytime soon. Higbee is barely a TE2 at this point, so there is no reason to have him holding a roster spot hostage on your fantasy squad if there is a better tight end or position player available on your league’s waiver wire.
A prevailing thought heading into 2023 was that with Higbee could get featured more often in the Rams passing attack because Kupp was injured and the other receivers on the roster were unproven. Yet Higbee failed to take advantage of the opportunity. Instead, Puka Nacua and Tutu Atwell were the ones getting the Matthew Stafford passes that would normally be aimed at Kupp.
Now that Kupp is back on the field and playing like his Pro Bowl self, there is even less of a chance that Higbee will give fantasy managers anything more than 20-40 yards per week. He has only broken the 50-yard barrier in two of his six games this year and has not scored a touchdown yet. There are tight ends with vastly better numbers on your fantasy free agent list right now.
Feel free to give Higbee his walking papers. I do not believe he will help anyone win a fantasy championship with his mediocre weekly stats. Sean McVay and the Rams’ game plans always utilize Higbee as a secondary option and not as a focal point of the passing attack, and that does not appear that it will change anytime soon.
