NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 10/18/23

There are only two games on today's slate, but both could be very exciting with plenty of goals. The Ottawa Senators have had a strong start to the season and are looking to make a push for the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Washington Capitals' star players have seemed disinterested. The Pittsburgh Penguins could struggle against the speed of the Detroit Red Wings tonight, just as they did against the Chicago Blackhawks on opening night.

DraftKings and FanDuel Goalies - NHL DFS Picks

Darcy Keumper- DK $7.2K || FD $7.1K

Opponent - Ottawa Senators

We always search for affordable goalies who are likely to face a lot of shots. Keumper, with his new dad strength in his first start, made 38 saves and earned 28.6 fantasy points. this means you are fading Ottawa on this slate, which will make your lineup unique which is what we want on a 2-game slate. The Capitals have struggled in their first two home games, so playing on the road may help them find their form.

DraftKings and FanDuel Centers - NHL DFS Picks

Evgeni Malkin - DK $6.3K || FD $7.0K

Opponent - Detroit Red Wings

It's hard to believe that Geno might get overlooked on a two-game slate, but I think it's possible, considering the other potential stacks that the public will likely look at. In his last two games, he has performed exceptionally well, with two goals, four assists, and nine shots while averaging 28.9 fppg. I believe that Detroit will match Seider/Walman against the Crosby line, which leaves the depth of Detroit for Malkin and his line to take advantage of. If you are stacking up Ottawa, then Malkin/Smith could make a great secondary combo on this slate.

Reilly Smith - DK $4.4K || FD $4.9K

Opponent - Detroit Red Wings

Reilly Smith has been playing well on Malkin's wing, with 12 shots on goal in the first three games of the season. He has scored goals in back-to-back games, including seven shots on goal in the only road game so far. Tonight, they will face the Copp line, which is known for poor defense. We are still in the early stages of the season, but we can already see how coaches are matching up their players on home ice. We will continue to analyze these matchups and adjust our strategies accordingly. If you are looking to stack the OTT1 line tonight, Smith would be a valuable addition to consider in your lineup.

DraftKings and FanDuel Defensemen - NHL DFS Picks

Jake Sanderson- DK $3.8K || FD $4.3K

Opponent - Washington Capitals

It's important to note that Mr. Sanderson is currently mispriced, particularly on DK. In two home games, he has the highest XGF/60 of all Sens Defencemen, with a score of 4.44, as well as a SF/60 of 51.1. He also leads in scoring chances per 60 and high-danger chances per 60. Essentially, we're getting a $5.5K defenceman at a huge discount. To put it into perspective, the Capitals have conceded 22 shots to Defencemen through two games so far, which is quite extraordinary. Sanderson should be included in 100% of your lineups.
