Atlanta Falcons tight end Jonnu Smith was the 100th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. Smith had a productive college career, totaling 178 receptions for 2,001 yards and 18 touchdowns in four years at Florida International.
The former Golden Panther spent four years with the Titans. He had 114 receptions on 169 targets for 1,302 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns with Tennessee. Smith signed with the New England Patriots during the 2021 NFL offseason.
Unfortunately, he never lived up to his massive free agency contract. The veteran tight end had only 55 receptions on 83 targets for 539 receiving yards and a touchdown in two years with the Patriots. New England traded him to the Falcons this offseason for a late-round draft pick.

What Did Jonnu Smith Accomplish In Week 6?
Smith has had a solid 2023 season in Atlanta, totaling 25 receptions on 32 targets for 282 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Last week, the veteran tight end had four receptions on five targets for 36 receiving yards and a touchdown against the Washington Commanders. It was the first touchdown Smith has scored since the 2021 season.
Is Jonnu Smith A Good Fantasy Football Pickup For Week 7?
Despite splitting snaps and targets with Kyle Pitts, the veteran tight end has been fantasy-relevant. The former Golden Panther is the TE9 for the year, averaging 7.5 half-point PPR fantasy points per game.
Smith has scored more fantasy points than several big-name tight ends this season, including Dallas Goedert, Darren Waller, David Njoku, and Pitts. More importantly, the veteran tight end has become a reliable target for Desmond Ridder.
The former Golden Panther had the third-most targets on the team (32) behind Drake London (43) and Pitts (32). However, his 25 receptions are only one behind London and Bijan Robinson for the team lead.
Meanwhile, Smith has a challenging matchup in Week 7 against the Detroit Lions. They have surrendered seven fantasy points per game to tight ends this season, around the league average.
Detroit held Sam LaPorta to only 5.6 fantasy points last week. Fantasy players should add Smith off the waiver wire if they need a streaming option with upside at the tight end position. However, his matchup this week is less than ideal.
