AJ Smith-Shawver Likely To Start Game 3 Wednesday
1 year agoAtlanta Braves pitcher AJ Smith-Shawver is a candidate to start Wednesday's Game 3 of the NLDS versus the Philadelphia Phillies. While the Braves have not named a starter, most signs point to Smith-Shawver after Spencer Strider and Max Fried pitched Games 1 and 2 while veteran Charlie Morton deals with a finger injury and is not on the club's NLDS roster. The rookie made just five starts and six appearances in the big leagues this season, working to a 4.26 ERA but also a 6.69 FIP and 5.25 SIERA across his 25 1/3 innings of work. He hasn't pitched since a Sept. 28 outing versus the Cubs, his first big-league appearance since a June 30 outing versus the Brewers. The 20-year-old also posted a 4.17 ERA across 41 innings at Triple-A this season.
