Fantasy Football Dynasty Watch: Breakout CFB Performances From Week 5 (2023)

Mike Marteny takes a look at 2023 breakout collegiate stars that will be available in your fantasy football dynasty drafts within the next year or two. Who shined in Week 5 of the 2023 season?

We had another fun weekend of college football. We had some performances that you had to see to believe. I think at this point I can just put Brock Bowers under the tight end section of this article from now until the end of the season. He is integral to Georgia's continued success.

We are going to help you get acclimated with these college players earlier than many of your fantasy football league mates. We here at RotoBaller are all about giving you an advantage.

I will highlight one quarterback, one running back, one wide receiver, and one tight end every week of the college season that put up some really big numbers. I'll let you know what it means for your dynasty leagues. Do these guys have NFL futures? You'll find out!

Fantasy Football Dynasty Watch: Quarterbacks

Caleb Williams, USC (30-40, 403 yards, 6 TD, INT; 5 carries, 12 yards) at Colorado

USC's defense has been rough all season, but this was still the first time that the Trojans didn't let off the gas at some point. It turns out that the Trojans needed all six of those touchdowns.

We knew at some point that this would happen with NIL deals in college, but he's not wrong. Don't get mad at Caleb. He's making the best decision for himself. Playing one more year in college for roughly the same amount of money is a great idea for a myriad of reasons.

He's likely the number one pick whenever the NCAA makes him leave. That may not be in 2024 though...and that stinks for our dynasty leagues and those of us who already traded away assets for the top pick in 2024 when Williams was still a freshman at Oklahoma. I see you. I feel your pain.

Fantasy Football Dynasty Watch: Running Backs

Re'Mahn Davis, Kentucky (26 carries, 280 yards, 3 TD; reception, 9 yards, TD) vs. Florida

Davis didn't do this to a Florida directional school. He did it against the Gators. I have never seen a Florida defense dismantled like this. What a performance by Davis. This was the most rushing yards in a game so far this season at the FBS level. Davis went to Kentucky to be featured prominently in a good offense with a chance at an extra game. He didn't have that at Temple or Vanderbilt.

At 5' 10" and 216 pounds, Davis is stout enough to take hits from NFL linebackers. He upped his receiving chops at Vandy last year, which is only going to help his draft stock. The NFL doesn't use workhorse backs anymore, but there is really no reason for a team to take Davis off the field. He does everything well.

Fantasy Football Dynasty Watch: Wide Receivers

Tory Horton, Colorado State (10 receptions, 227 yards, 3 TD) vs. Utah Tech

Horton was a good receiver at Nevada, but he exploded when he transferred to Colorado State before the 2022 season. This is a pass-first offense and Horton is the target hog for a good reason. He has excellent hands and is shifty after the catch.

The 6' 2", 190-pound senior has the size to play on the outside in the NFL. That will lead to more opportunities for him at the next level. He has the size to contend with the bigger corners in the NFL and his great hands will have quarterbacks trusting him. He's not a true burner, but he doesn't have to be. The NFL always has room for hands guys.

Fantasy Football Dynasty Watch: Tight Ends

Brock Bowers, Georgia (8 receptions, 157 yards, TD) at Auburn

Bowers is no secret anymore. He started making noise at the end of last season for the Bulldogs. Bowers has excellent hands and is a great blocker. He already has the complete package. Bowers is a guy that can start in the NFL for a decade or more.

Honorable mention: Mitchell Evans, Notre Dame; Amari Niblack, Alabama
