Welcome back RotoBallers to my DraftKings NFL DFS Picks for Week 5 - let's break the slate! With the NFL's bye weeks kicking in, the Week 5 Main Slate is an interesting one. We once again have a potential shootout environment that looms large over the entire slate with the Chiefs vs. Vikings matchup, as well as a few games that are legitimately ugly on paper, such as the Patriots vs. Saints.
This week's DraftKings lineup recommendations are based on matchups, projected DK points and ownership, overall upside/talent levels, and opportunity, as well as factors such as Vegas odds, home-field advantage, and more. There are quite a few great plays available on DK for Week 5.

DraftKings Quarterbacks - Week 5 DFS Picks
Anthony Richardson - TEN @ IND ($7,000)
I’m pretty sure A-Rich has been featured in this article every week that he’s been active this year. Despite a price tag that continues to creep up, I’m still in on the rookie phenom at $7K this week against Tennessee.
For lack of a more original term, Richardson has been a DFS cheat code to this point. His 24.1 DK points per game is currently the third-best average at the QB position and this is despite the rookie leaving extremely early in Week 2 with a concussion. He’s been nearly unstoppable on the ground, averaging 5.7 yards per carry, and accounting for a position-high four rushing TDs.

Richardson has also been surprisingly effective as a passer and that’s where he should be able to truly capitalize this week against a leaky Titans secondary. Tennessee is perhaps the biggest pass-funnel defense in the NFL, as they continue to shut down opposing running backs but are routinely shredded through the air. The Titans are one of just 11 NFL teams to have already allowed over 1,000 passing yards to opposing QBs. Richardson should feast in all phases of the game this week.
Joshua Dobbs - CIN @ ARI ($5,200)
As a proud University of Tennessee alum, this is the part of the article where I say, "All Josh Dobbs needed was a chance!"
After shuffling around the NFL and often being forced into action in less-than-ideal circumstances, Dobbs has impressed during his time at the helm of an Arizona squad that's shown more fight than anyone expected. Since getting off to a sluggish start in the season opener after being with the Cardinals for just over a week, the 28-year-old has looked more comfortable with each start, despite difficult matchups against the likes of the Cowboys and 49ers.
What Joshua Dobbs is doing with this Cardinals offense in terrifying matchups might be one of the most impressive things of the 2023 season so far.
vs DAL: 120 rating, 85.5 QBR
at SF: 102.2 rating, 80.9 QBRNow fifth in NFL in designed rush attempts for QBs at 17%.
No INTs.
— Dwain McFarland (@dwainmcfarland) October 2, 2023
Dobbs has shown an increased willingness to utilize his legs as the season has progressed and he's now gained over 40 yards on the ground in three straight games. His 141 rushing yards are the fourth-most in the NFL at the QB position through the first month of the season.
His Week 5 opponent, the Cincinnati Bengals, has been susceptible to rushing QBs. Cincy has relinquished the NFL's fifth-most rushing yards to opposing signal-callers. Dobbs' adequate passing skills and emerging rushing prowess make him the top salary-saving QB on the Main Slate.
MORE TOP QB PLAYS: Patrick Mahomes ($8,200); Kirk Cousins ($6,900)
DraftKings Running Backs - Week 5 DFS Picks
Bijan Robinson - HOU @ ATL ($7,700)
Despite the lack of a true ceiling performance, the dynamic rookie rolls into Week 5 as the running back position’s fifth-highest overall DraftKings scorer. Robinson is averaging a healthy 19.1 DK points per game.
Bijan Robinson’s snap shares have gone from 63% in Week 1 to 72%, 81%, and 76% while Tyler Allgeier’s have dipped from 56% in Week 1 to 44%, 30%, and 26%.
Bijan has finished as an RB1 in 3 out of 4 weeks and hasn’t even hit his ceiling yet. Better days are ahead. #DirtyBirds pic.twitter.com/o6da2SffI1
— Kyle Lindemann (@LuckIsMadeFF) October 2, 2023
Even with Tyler Allgeier’s continued (nagging) presence in the Falcons backfield, Robinson has firmly established himself as Atlanta's alpha RB and earned elite volume. He is averaging 18 touches per game across the first month of the season. The combination of Robinson’s obvious talent and his strong usage would indicate that a breakout game is coming soon.
That inevitable eruption could come this week against the Houston Texans, a squad that’s been very generous to opposing running backs. Houston has relinquished the NFL’s third-most rushing TDs (five) and 503 total yards to the position through their first four games.
Breece Hall - NYJ @ DEN ($5,400)
If Jets head coach Robert Saleh is to be believed, Breece Hall will face no snap restrictions this week. Should that indeed be the case, Hall is perhaps the biggest no-brainer on the slate at just $5,400 against a woeful Denver Broncos defense.
As he’s worked his way back from an ACL injury that ended his brilliant 2022 rookie campaign, Hall has continued to showcase his trademark explosiveness this season, averaging 6.6 yards per carry, which stands as the second-highest mark in the NFL among RBs with at least 25 attempts.
Breece Hall is expected to return to a full workload. 💪 https://t.co/uYiLeiGIFO pic.twitter.com/QU8Q69IHdr
— theScore (@theScore) October 5, 2023
He squares off against a Broncos defensive front that’s been the league’s worst to this point. Denver ranks dead last in the NFL in DraftKings points, rushing yards, and rushing TDs allowed to opposing running backs.
MORE TOP RB PLAYS: David Montgomery ($6,600); De'Von Achane ($6,100)

DraftKings Wide Receivers - Week 5 DFS Picks
Ja'Marr Chase - CIN @ ARI ($7,900)
If injured Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins is unable to suit up in Week 5, the masses will flock to Cincy’s Tyler Boyd. However, I’m willing to play this one straight and lock in Ja’Marr Chase.
Thanks to Chase and the Bengals offense's failure to produce anything in a Week 4 blowup spot against the Tennessee Titans, the star wideout’s price tag has remained rather depressed at just $7.9K.
Despite the rough start for the Bengals, Ja’Marr Chase has the most receptions in his career through the first 4 games
2021: 17 Rec 297 Rec Yds 4 TDs
2022: 25 Rec 293 Rec Yds 2 TDs
2023: 29 Rec 284 Rec Yds 0 TDsLet’s see if Uno can get his first TD of the season this weekend pic.twitter.com/KNefswq1hL

Obviously, we know that Chase can fail at this price tag, but a 29.1 DK point effort against the Rams in Week 3 is a nice reminder of what the LSU alum is capable of. He draws a true breakout matchup against a Cardinals defense that’s allowing the third-most yards per target -- a chunky 10.38 -- in the NFL. Chase already leads the Bengals with a 27% team target share and that volume will only increase if Higgins is sidelined against Arizona. It also must be noted that Chase is yet to find the end zone this season and should have some positive touchdown regression headed his way.
DeAndre Hopkins - TEN @ IND ($5,700)
Like Chase, DeAndre Hopkins is a receiver who’s yet to live up to his potential in 2023. However, the veteran has consistently received elite volume since joining the Titans this season. He’s garnered a 27.9% target share for this Tennessee offense -- a mark that’s the sixth-best in the NFL -- while also sporting a sneaky-great aDOT of 13.7, which stands 19th in the NFL among qualifying receivers.

D-Hop will square off against a Colts secondary that’s struggled mightily this season. Indy is fresh off a 9/161/1 pasting at the hands of Rams wideout Puka Nacua in Week 4. The Colts have allowed an opposing receiver to go over 100 yards in three of four games this year and will now be without starting cornerback Dallis Flowers, who suffered a season-ending Achilles rupture last week.
MORE TOP WR PLAYS: Justin Jefferson ($9,400); Tyreek Hill ($9,000); Marquise Brown ($5,000)
DraftKings Tight Ends - Week 5 DFS Picks
T.J. Hockenson - KC @ MIN ($6,500)
Although its individual pieces have not been highlighted in this week's article at other positions, I think it goes without saying that we want some exposure to this Chiefs vs. Vikings matchup, as it is perhaps the best point-scoring environment on the slate.
While you can never go wrong with Travis Kelce, I'll save the $1,100 and drop down to "Baby Kelce", T.J. Hockenson. Since joining the Minnesota Vikings at the trade deadline last season, Hockenson is one of the few at the TE position to be in the same stratosphere as Kelce in terms of volume and production.
Through the first four games of the season, Hockenson leads all tight ends in targets (31), receptions (25), TDs (two), and DK points scored (56.3). He draws a matchup against a Chiefs squad that has relinquished the NFL's fifth-most catches and fifth-highest yards per target to the TE position.
Sam LaPorta - CAR @ DET ($5,000)
As with Anthony Richardson, I like to think that we were on the ground floor with rookie Sam LaPorta. The talented Lions tight end has been a frequent flyer in this article over the first month of the season. While his DK price tag has continued to rise and now sits at $5K, you can make the argument that he's still underpriced.

🔥 1st in receptions - 22
🔥 2nd in receiving yards - 242Making history 😤 pic.twitter.com/ZCJnPu1OJe
— PFF (@PFF) September 29, 2023
LaPorta has smashed the "rookie tight ends can't succeed" maxim to this point. The Iowa product's 22 catches are the most by any tight end in NFL history over the first four games of their career. He currently leads all tight ends in receiving yards (242) and stands second to only T.J. Hockenson in DK points scored (52.2). The rookie should continue to eat this week against a Carolina defense that is allowing a massive 9.0 yards per target to opposing tight ends.
MORE TOP TE PLAYS: Travis Kelce ($7,600); Zach Ertz ($3,500)
