2 years agoThe Denver Broncos signed free-agent wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith (groin) to their practice squad on Tuesday and waived cornerback Essang Bassey and released wide receiver Michael Bandy from the practice squad in corresponding moves. Smith began the season on Injured Reserve with the New Orleans Saints due to a groin injury he suffered in training camp, but he's apparently healthy now and will have another opportunity in Denver as he reunites with his former head coach Sean Payton. The 27-year-old remains well off the fantasy radar for now. In his five seasons with the Saints since 2018, Smith has put up 131 receptions (196 targets) for 1,764 yards and 18 touchdowns in 66 games (35 starts). He had just 19 catches for 278 yards and one score in 15 games (six starts) in 2022.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

2 years agoThe Denver Broncos are bringing in former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith (groin) for a visit after he was released by the Saints on Tuesday. Smith played five seasons for the Saints, with four coming under head coach Sean Payton. The 27-year-old former third-round pick by the Saints in 2018 out of Central Florida had 131 receptions in 196 targets for 1,764 yards and 18 touchdowns in his five years in the Big Easy. The Broncos will put Smith through a physical before potentially signing him after the Saints placed him on Injured Reserve to begin the 2023 season. Payton is familiar with Smith from their time together in New Orleans, but he'll be a long shot to return any kind of fantasy value if he ends up signing with the Broncos.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

2 years agoThe New Orleans Saints released wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith (groin) from Injured Reserve on Tuesday, making him a free agent. Smith will have to prove he's past his groin injury before another team takes a chance on him as receiver depth. The 27-year-old former third-round pick by the Saints in 2018 out of Central Florida has yet to play in 2023 and had 19 receptions for 278 yards and a career-low one touchdown on 27 targets in 15 games (six starts) last year for New Orleans. Smith has 131 catches on 196 targets for 1,764 yards and 18 touchdowns in 66 games (35 starts) in five NFL seasons, all with the Saints.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

2 years agoNew Orleans Saints wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith (groin) landed on the injured reserve list on Saturday. He will miss at least the first four games of the 2023-24 campaign. The wideout underwent surgery on his groin back in August, so this shouldn't come as a surprise to fantasy managers. That said, Smith has been a hit-or-miss fantasy option throughout his career, totaling 131 grabs for 1,764 yards and 18 touchdowns in 66 regular-season appearances. Although Michael Thomas and Chris Olave should be the preferred targets for Derek Carr this year, Smith's absence is still a blow to those participating in deeper formats.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBaller

2 years agoNew Orleans Saints wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith (groin) underwent surgery in August and is expected to miss the Week 1 regular season opener against the Tennessee Titans. Smith also missed most of training camp and all three preseason games due to the injury, so there's easily a chance that he misses more than one regular season game for the Saints while he recovers. Rashid Shaheed (groin) is also battling injury and could be slowed early on, which could give both Keith Kirkwood and A.T. Perry some opportunities behind Chris Olave and Michael Thomas. Smith's playing time dropped down the stretch last year as Shaheed impressed, and he finished with just 19 catches, 278 receiving yards and one touchdown in 15 games (six starts). The 27-year-old is off the fantasy radar for now.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
