Is Mac Jones The Patriots Starting Quarterback?
Thankfully, the Patriots hired Bill O’Brien as their offensive coordinator in the offseason. The former Alabama quarterback started the year playing well, totaling 748 passing yards and five touchdowns compared to two interceptions over the first three weeks.
Unfortunately, Jones struggled in Week 4 against the Dallas Cowboys. He completed only 57.1% of his pass attempts for 150 yards and zero touchdowns. More importantly, New England pulled the third-year quarterback during the game.
However, head coach Bill Belichick said Jones will remain the starter. He pulled the young quarterback from the game because of the score, not his performance.
Should I Start Mac Jones In Week 5?
While Jones will start for the Patriots this week, is he a worthy starting fantasy quarterback? Last week, he scored only 0.7 fantasy points before getting pulled. More importantly, the third-year quarterback had two awful interceptions against the Cowboys.
Meanwhile, Jones faces the New Orleans Saints in Week 5. The Saints have held quarterbacks to 15.8 fantasy points per game, around the league average. However, they have surrendered under 13.6 fantasy points twice this season.
Fantasy players should look for a better streaming option on the waiver wire. One option is Sam Howell against the Chicago Bears. The former UNC star was impressive last week, completing 70.7% of his pass attempts, a season-high, for nearly 300 yards and 20 fantasy points. Meanwhile, the Bears have given up three passing touchdowns and at least 22.2 fantasy points in all but one game to quarterbacks this year.
