Zach Davies Designated For Assignment
1 year agoThe Arizona Diamondbacks designated right-hander Zach Davies for assignment on Wednesday and recalled pitcher Justin Martinez from the minors in a corresponding move. Apparently the D-backs had seen enough with Davies after he allowed four earned runs on eight hits in just three innings in a no-decision against the Chicago White Sox in his start on Tuesday. The 30-year-old just wasn't good at all in Arizona this year, going 2-5 with a 7.00 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 72 strikeouts in 82 1/3 innings in his 18 starts, and Arizona will look to upgrade their starting rotation if they make the postseason. Ryne Nelson is the best bet to take Davies' spot in the rotation if the club secures a wild-card spot.
