Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb was projected to have a career year in 2023 after the team did not retain Kareem Hunt this offseason. The 27-year-old is one of the greatest ball carriers of all time on a per-carry basis and looked to have the backfield to himself.
Unfortunately, he suffered a gruesome knee injury during the Monday Night Football loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, putting the rest of his 2023 season in jeopardy.
Is Chubb out for the season? Who will step in for Chubb in his absence? Let's dive in.

Nick Chubb Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Chubb (knee) suffered a gruesome injury on Monday night in the team's 26-22 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Head coach Kevin Stefanski shortly announced after the game that Chubb would be out for the season with a knee injury.
The road to recovery is a long one for the star running back, and he could undergo two separate knee surgeries, according to NFL Insider Josina Anderson. Anderson said there have been "initial discussions" of it, with the first surgery coming "within the next 7-10 days, and the second occurring several weeks after." Nothing has been confirmed yet.
The Browns will feature Jerome Ford as its lead back moving forward, though the organization brought back Kareem Hunt on a one-year deal on Wednesday.
Jerome Ford, Kareem Hunt Fantasy Football Outlook
According to Browns beat writer for Cleveland.com, Mary Kay Cabot -- Ford is still expected to take over the RB1 role with Chubb out of action. Hunt is familiar with the offense and will be able to contribute right away, but his efficiency declined last season and his role became mightily reduced.
Ford should have at least RB2 value moving forward, and Hunt will likely become a shaky flex play in deep PPR leagues. It's worth noting the team faces the Tennessee Titans, Baltimore Ravens, and San Francisco 49ers over the next three weeks. All three of those teams are fierce against the run.
