Kyle Harrison Optioned To Triple-A
2 years agoSan Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kyle Harrison was demoted to Triple-A Sacramento Friday night to make room for right-handed pitcher Ross Stripling. Harrison is regarded as one of the best pitching prospects in baseball, arguably the best left-handed one. He got a little cup of coffee with the Giants that saw him post a 5.18 ERA through five starts. He was a little too hittable in his first go-around, giving up 26 hits in 24 1/3 innings, but he also struck out 29 during that time. The seven home runs given up is a big concern, so that should be something to work on down on the farm, but the future is still bright for the 22-year-old and he should get a chance to stick in the Giants rotation in 2024.

Kyle Harrison To Make Spring Debut On Friday
1 month agoSan Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kyle Harrison is expected to make his Cactus League debut on Friday against the Brewers, although Logan Webb will be the starter for that game and Harrison will follow. Harrison is anticipated to work as the fifth man in the rotation for the Giants to start 2025 but has yet to live up to some lofty strikeout potential he flashed in the minors. The southpaw boasted a 37.4 percent strikeout rate in the minors but owns just 22.5 percent in the majors, which is slightly below league average. On the flip side, some command problems he displayed in the minors with high walk rates have been improved at the big league level, coming in at a 7.8 percent walk rate through 31 career starts for San Francisco, slightly better than league average. The former third-round draft pick carried a 3.69 ERA (3.88 FIP) and a 1.28 WHIP into August last year (18 GS), but fell apart over his final six starts to the tune of a 7.76 ERA and 1.58 WHIP before being shut down for the final month due to right shoulder inflammation. He'll look to get back on track in 2025, but his spot in the rotation feels tenuous, so he'll need to get off to a good start. As such, the lefty's ADP sits well outside the top 300 picks, so he should only be considered in deeper league fantasy drafts.

Kyle Harrison To Compete For Rotation Spot
1 month agoSan Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin said that left-hander Kyle Harrison will compete with right-hander Hayden Birdsong for the fifth starting rotation spot in spring training. The San Francisco Chronicle's Shayna Rubin reports that Harrison, who had a noticeable dip in velocity in 2024, said his velocity is back where he wants it and has corrected issues with his delivery that occurred after he suffered ankle and shoulder injuries. The 23-year-old was shut down early last year due to left-shoulder inflammation, which was probably the primary cause of his drop in velocity. With good health, he should have a leg up on the final rotation spot over Birdsong and could be due for a bounce-back campaign after posting a 4.56 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with a 118:42 K:BB in 24 starts (124 1/3 innings) in his first full MLB season in 2024. RotoBaller has Harrison outside of its top-100 starting pitching rankings.

Kyle Harrison Done For The Season
7 months agoUpdating a previous report, San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kyle Harrison (shoulder) was placed in the injured list on Friday with left-shoulder inflammation. The Giants have shut him down for the remainder of the season and will look towards 2025 for the lefty. Harrison's velocity had been down in the second half of the season, resulting in a very subpar 5.63 ERA in eight starts after the All-Star break. The 23-year-old was able to make 24 starts this season and posted a 4.56 ERA, though it was paired with a 4.85 xERA (17th percentile). Harrison will have work to do to improve in 2025 and stabilize the back end of a solid Giants rotation. Fantasy managers who are looking to replace Harrison on their roster may want to look at Hayden Birdsong, who has struck out 64 batters in 52 IP, though his 5.19 ERA may cause some worries.

Giants Place Kyle Harrison On 15-Day Injured List
7 months agoThe San Francisco Giants placed left-hander Kyle Harrison (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to Sept. 4) on Friday with left-shoulder inflammation and recalled right-hander Austin Warren from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move. The move comes after Harrison was slapped around on Tuesday in his most recent outing versus the division-rival Arizona Diamondbacks, when he surrendered six earned runs on seven hits while walking one and fanning three in just 2 2/3 frames. The 23-year-old southpaw has been awful since the start of August with a 7.76 ERA and 1.57 WHIP over 26 2/3 innings, but it's unclear how long his shoulder has been bothering him. There is time for Harrison to return to SF's starting rotation, but only if he's able to return after the 15 days. In any event, there's a good chance we've seen the last of Harrison in 2024.
