The Miami Dolphins have one of the worst backfields in the NFL. They have been the subject of trade talks surrounding Jonathan Taylor over the past few weeks. The Dolphins were also a potential landing spot for Dalvin Cook. However, none of those moves happened.
Instead, Miami’s top three running backs on the depth chart are Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., and De’Von Achane. All three running backs have been popular sleeper candidates.
According to the RotoBaller ADP, Mostert is a 12th-round pick in 12-team leagues. Meanwhile, Wilson is a 13th-round pick, and Achane is a 10th-round selection. However, which Miami running back should fantasy players draft this year?

What Did The Dolphins Running Backs Accomplish Last Year?
After 5.5 years with the San Francisco 49ers, Mostert joined the Dolphins last year. He was the team’s top running back, totaling 181 rushing attempts for 891 yards and three touchdowns, setting career highs in rushing attempts and yards. Furthermore, Mostert had 31 receptions on 42 targets for 202 receiving yards and two touchdowns last season.
Wilson started last year with the 49ers. However, he got traded to the Dolphins after San Francisco acquired Christian McCaffrey. The veteran running back had 84 rushing attempts for 392 yards and three touchdowns in eight games with Miami. He also had 12 receptions on 24 targets for 94 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The rookie running back was outstanding at Texas A&M. Achane led the Aggies in rushing attempts (196), yards (1,102), and touchdowns (eight). He also had 36 receptions for 196 receiving yards and three touchdowns, finishing second on the team in receiving scores.
Who Will Be The Top Running Back For The Dolphins In 2023?
Unfortunately, Wilson has struggled with injuries during training camp. Today, the Dolphins placed the veteran running back on short-term injured reserve. He will miss at least the first four games this year.
That means Mostert and Achane will have significant roles to start the year. However, which running back should fantasy players draft?
Achane is recovering from a minor shoulder injury but should be ready for Week 1. Meanwhile, Mostert has struggled with injuries in his career, missing 16 games during the 2021 season.
Fantasy players who need an early-season running back should target Mostert. However, fantasy players looking for the most potential upside should draft Achane. The veteran will start the year as the starter, but it’s only a matter of time until the rookie takes over as the lead running back.
