Joe Burrow Injury Update
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (calf) was on the practice field Wednesday and participated in his normal position drills in shoulder pads and a helmet. Charlie Goldsmith of the Enquirer reports Burrow was moving around and throwing the ball well. The former No. 1 overall pick suffered a calf strain on July 27 and his Week 1 availability has been a topic of discussion.
Every update since has seemingly been positive, so he should be considered in line to start against the Cleveland Browns on September 10. However, setbacks often happen and fantasy managers should continue to monitor his progress.
Kyler Murray Injury Update
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) will not be activated off the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list at the start of the 2023 regular season. Since Murray will remain on the PUP list, he is not eligible to play during the team's first four games of the season. This is not a surprise after Murray suffered a torn ACL in Week 12 against the New England Patriots last season, but now it's official.
The former No. 1 overall pick still has no timetable to return. He could return as soon as Week 5 or even miss the entire regular season. All options are on the table as Arizona goes through a rebuilding year. Joshua Dobbs and Clayton Tune will start for Arizona in Week 1 against the Washington Commanders.
Hendon Hooker Injury Update
Detroit Lions rookie quarterback Hendon Hooker (knee) will start his first NFL season in 2023 on the Non-Football Injury list, according to a source. Hooker continues to recover from an ACL tear he suffered in college, and the Lions will continue to take it slow with their No. 68 overall pick in this year's NFL draft.
This move was expected since the day the Lions took the 25-year-old in the draft. He'll be forced to sit out the first four games of the season, but Hooker is fully expected to have a redshirt year in 2023. Nate Sudfeld tore his ACL in the preseason finale on Friday, so the Lions will most likely look to add another veteran signal-caller behind Jared Goff and Teddy Bridgewater before the start of the regular season.
