Should I Draft Kirk Cousins Or Tua Tagovailoa? Fantasy Football ADP For 2023 Drafts

Tua Tagovailoa - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

The 2023 regular season season is almost here. That means fantasy players have less than 10 days to complete all of their fantasy football drafts.

One of the toughest decisions fantasy players have to make every year is deciding between two similar options. Since fantasy players can’t possibly draft both guys, they must make the hard decision on which player to pick.

Today, we look at whether fantasy players should draft Kirk Cousins or Tua Tagovailoa.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2024:

Should I Draft Kirk Cousins?

According to the RotoBaller ADP, Cousins is a ninth-round pick in 12-team leagues and the 13th quarterback off the board. Last year, the veteran quarterback was the QB8, averaging 17.2 fantasy points per game. He completed 65.9% of his pass attempts for 4,547 yards and 29 touchdowns compared to 14 interceptions.

Last season was the third consecutive year Cousins had over 4,200 passing yards. It was also the seventh time he had over 4,000 passing yards in his career. Meanwhile, the veteran quarterback is supporting a new look this year.

Should I Draft Tua Tagovailoa?

According to the RotoBaller ADP, Tagovailoa is an eighth-round pick in 12-team leagues and the 11th quarterback off the board. Last year, the former Alabama star was the QB15, averaging 17.8 fantasy points per game. He completed 64.8% of his pass attempts for 3,548 yards and 25 touchdowns compared to eight interceptions.

Unfortunately, Tagovailoa missed four games because of multiple concussions. Yet, he was the QB10 on a points-per-game basis, averaging more fantasy points per contest than Justin Herbert and Trevor Lawrence. Furthermore, the former Alabama star had the eighth-most passing touchdowns last year despite missing four games with injuries.

Who Should I Draft?

Fantasy players should feel confident drafting either quarterback this season. However, their decision should come down to what they want from the quarterback.

Tagovailoa has significantly more upside than Cousins. Unfortunately, he comes with massive risk because of his injury history. Meanwhile, Cousins is the much safer option. He has consistently been a low-end QB1/high-end QB2 since taking over as a starter in 2015.

Both quarterbacks should have a positive fantasy season, barring injury. One potential option for fantasy players is to draft both quarterbacks. That would give them the upside from Tagovailoa and the safe floor from Cousins.
