Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield was the first overall pick by the Cleveland Browns in the 2018 NFL Draft. Mayfield had an outstanding college career, totaling 12,292 passing yards and 119 touchdowns in three years at Oklahoma.
Furthermore, he had an excellent rookie season. The former Oklahoma star had 3,725 passing yards and 27 touchdowns in 2018. Mayfield finished second in the Offensive Rookie of the Year award race. Unfortunately, he struggled the following season, throwing 3,827 yards and 22 touchdowns compared to 21 interceptions.
The following season Mayfield rebounded, totaling 3,563 yards, 26 touchdowns, and only eight interceptions. Furthermore, it was his only winning season in the NFL, going 11-5 as the starter. Unfortunately, the former Oklahoma star’s career has gone downhill since 2020.

What Did Baker Mayfield Accomplish In 2022?
After Mayfield struggled in 2021, the Browns traded for Deshaun Watson in the offseason. The former Oklahoma star got traded to the Carolina Panthers several weeks later. While he had to compete with Sam Darnold for the starting job, Mayfield played in seven contests with the Panthers last season.
The former Oklahoma star completed only 57.8% of his pass attempts for 1,313 yards, six touchdowns, and six interceptions with Carolina. Furthermore, he had a 1-5 record as the starter.
Mayfield lost the starting job and asked to be released. The Panthers granted his request, and the veteran quarterback landed with the Los Angeles Rams.
With Matthew Stafford injured, the teams needed a new starting quarterback. Mayfield took over as the starter right away. He completed 63.6% of his pass attempts for 850 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions in five games with the team.
Should I Draft Baker Mayfield?
The former Oklahoma star signed a one-year deal with the Buccaneers this offseason. Mayfield and Kyle Trask competed for the starting role after Tom Brady retired. However, Tampa Bay recently announced that the veteran quarterback would be the Week 1 starter.
While Mayfield won the starting role over Trask, should fantasy players draft the former Oklahoma star? The answer is absolutely not in 1QB leagues, but the veteran is worth drafting as a No. 3 quarterback in superflex leagues.
According to the RotoBaller ADP, Mayfield is the 32nd quarterback off the board and not typically drafted in 1QB leagues. The veteran had arguably the best year of his career as a rookie, throwing 27 touchdowns and posting a 5.6% touchdown rate. Since then, Mayfield has a 4.2% touchdown rate and a 1.5-1 touchdown to interception ratio.
