Just when we thought we'd get an extended look at Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams, the rug gets pulled out from under us. The sophomore was slated to get more work in the preseason due to his looming six-game suspension.
Williams exited Wednesday's joint practice session with the Jaguars. He pulled up, grabbing his right hamstring while running a deep route. He missed last preseason recovering from a torn ACL.
How much time is Williams expected to miss and what does it mean for his fantasy football outlook? Let's dive in.

Jameson Williams Injury Update For Fantasy Football
We've likely seen the last of Williams in the 2023 preseason. Coach Dan Campbell noted that he'll miss several weeks.
The Lions were planning to give Williams a lot of reps this preseason due to the suspension. The 12th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft was targeted seven times in his preseason debut, catching two for 18 yards.
Jameson Williams 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook
Williams was not a full-time player in his lone season in Detroit. In fact, he only logged one catch in six games. It was a 41-yard touchdown, but still not a lot of involvement. His highest snap share was only 25 percent, coming in Week 17.
The timing of the injury is concerning; however, it's not due to the recovery timeline but because this was his only time to get more comfortable with the offense. Once he's scheduled to return, his suspension will begin and he'll be forced away from the team.
Williams will still likely be selected in your fantasy drafts, but there's a very real chance that the manager won't have the patience to sit through the suspension. This is in addition to whatever time he needs to get reacclimated within the offense. If you want to take a shot in a deeper league, go for it. But there are several other high-upside receiver options around his ADP (Nico Collins, Rashod Bateman, and Rashee Rice) that you can gamble on.
