Welcome to our PrizePicks MLB DFS prop picks for Wednesday, August 16, 2023. The 2023 MLB season is underway here at RotoBaller, and we have you covered with some terrific plays from our friends over at PrizePicks.
PrizePicks is a great DFS fantasy picks site where you can choose to select plays in terms of fantasy points or single stats. The goal is to build a 2-player, 3-player, 4-player, or 5-player entry and then select whether or not you want to play for the power play or the flex play. On the power play, you will need to be correct on each of your selections to win, and on the flex play, you will have a little more wiggle room for a chance to win some money back. At PrizePicks, you're not playing against other people, you're just playing against the projections, and the guys at PrizePicks have worked hard to give you really attractive opportunities to make some money.
Announcement: We have two awesome new Props Optimizers for the MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, and NCAA! The PrizePicks Optimizer and Prop Bets Optimizer are both available in our new Props Premium Package, which includes exclusive access to RotoBaller's VIP Discord chat rooms for props and betting.
PrizePicks Over/Under DFS Props Contests
PrizePicks has two types of games. The first type of game is known as Fantasy Score, which consists of selecting various players and trying to determine if they will go over or under their projected fantasy points in a game.
The second game is known as Single Stat. For the MLB, Single Stat consists of pitcher strikeout props in which you determine if the pitcher in question will go over or under their projected strikeout total.
You can mix and match players from different types of games in your entry or select all of your plays from the same type of game. Once you have selected your players and props, you can choose the aforementioned flex play or power play option. Let's see what the board offers today!

Reese Olson more than 5.5 strikeouts
Olson has managed to strike out six or more batters in four starts this season, two of which have come against the Twins. In fact, Olson has pitched 11 1/3 innings against these Twins and has managed to mow down 17 batters while allowing just one earned run across two starts. It appears he has their number, and this makes some sense, as they are currently posting the fifth-highest K rate vs. right-handers over the previous three weeks with a rate of 27% and have been near the top of the K charts vs. righties all season.
Kenta Maeda more than 6.0 strikeouts
We got burned here last week in a day game with Maeda as he only managed to strike out four Tigers, however, he has struck out at least seven batters in five of his previous seven starts. The Tigers are currently posting the ninth-highest K rate vs. right-handers over the previous three weeks with a rate of 24.3%. They are also pairing this with just a 5.7% walk rate, which would help Maeda avoid some trouble. It might also be prudent to look at some unders on hits allowed props today as well as some overs on outs recorded for Maeda.
Kevin Gausman more than 6.5 strikeouts
Gausman has struck out seven or more batters in five of his previous seven starts and struck out six batters in those other two starts. He will be at home in this one where he has posted a 12.9 K/9 compared to a 10.8 K/9 mark on the road. He will be facing the Phillies as well, who have posted a 23% K rate vs. right-handers over the previous three weeks, which ranks in the bottom half of baseball.
Aaron Nola more than 6.0 strikeouts
We are going to stay in the same game on this last one as Nola has struck out at least six batters in each of his previous seven starts with some of these starts coming against low-strikeout teams in the Nationals, Guardians, and Marlins. Tonight, he will be up against the Blue Jays, who are posting nearly a 23% K rate vs. right-handers over the previous three weeks while pairing that with a sub-100 wRC+ mark.
