Matt Brash Blows Save, Takes Loss Monday
1 year agoSeattle Mariners relief pitcher Matt Brash fell to 8-4 in Monday's 7-6 loss to the Royals. Brash entered the game to pitch the bottom of the ninth up by one. He allowed back-to-back singles, putting runners on first and third. The runner on first advanced to second on a steal before he got the first out on a sacrifice fly to tie the game, during which the runner on second advanced to third. He finally gave up the winning run on a sacrifice bunt. The 25-year-old has been a useful high-leverage reliever for the Mariners this season and may see more save opportunities now that Paul Sewald has been traded away. However, he does seem to be clearly behind Andres Munoz in the pecking order. Brash has now converted only two of seven save opportunities this season with 16 holds, a 3.35 ERA, a 14.82 K/9 rate, and a 3.82 BB/9 rate.
