Diamondbacks Option Jake McCarthy To Triple-A
1 year agoThe Arizona Diamondbacks optioned outfielder Jake McCarthy to Triple-A Reno on Monday and recalled outfielder Kyle Lewis from the minors in a corresponding move. Lewis is serving as the designated hitter for Arizona and is batting fifth in the lineup on Monday against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. The 26-year-old McCarthy has a career-high 26 stolen bases in 257 at-bats in his third major-league season, but he's struggled in the other aspects of his game and will go down to the farm for the second time this year before likely returning when rosters expand in September. McCarthy is slashing .245/.325/.331 with only two homers, 14 RBI and 33 runs scored. He had picked up just five hits in 26 at-bats (.192) to begin the month of August in 11 games (eight starts).
