C.J. Stroud Stuggles In Preseason Debut
1 year agoHouston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud made his preseason debut on Thursday against the New England Patriots. The rookie drew the start over Davis Mills, but it's one game he'll likely want to forget. Stroud completed just two of his four passes for 13 yards and one interception. On his lone interception, the rookie felt pressure and threw the ball right toward a Patriots defender. He saw just two drives in total on Thursday. It wasn't a pretty debut for Stroud at all. After the Texans selected the former Ohio State star with the second overall pick, he'll eventually be the team's starting quarterback. It's also still too early to panic about Stroud after just two drives. He played against a Bill Belichick defense that always suffocates rookie quarterbacks. Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans called Stroud's outing a good one, but acknowledged he needs to clean things up. The rookie hasn't been named the starter yet, and he'll compete with Mills to be the team's Week 1 starter. Stroud is still worth a shot in the later rounds in superflex leagues.
