WNBA DFS Picks: Forward
A'ja Wilson (Las Vegas Aces) - vs. WAS - DK: $11,200, FD: 9,200
With the Aces blowing teams out, A'ja Wilson has had the luxury of playing under 30 minutes in three consecutive games. It's possible that happens again against the Mystics, who've lost two in a row and are dealing with a lot of injuries.
But even in limited minutes, Wilson is posting big numbers. Last time out, she played 24 minutes, scoring 28 points on 10-for-18 shooting to go along with 14 rebounds. It was her second 20-point double-double in the last three games.
Wilson, who looks like the MVP favorite right now, has the ability to just go out there and dominate her opponents. Washington having frontcourt injuries should make it easy for Wilson to put up big numbers again, even if she only plays 25-ish minutes.
Tianna Hawkins (Washington Mystics) - @ LV - DK: $6,800, FD: $5,800
The injury woes continue for the Washington Mystics, as the frontcourt duo of Elena Delle Donne and Shakira Austin remain sidelined.
On a two-game slate, we've got to search for value, and the Mystics frontcourt seems like it can be a place with some value. Let's start with Tianna Hawkins.
Last game, Hawkins struggled, shooting just 2-for-6 from the floor. That ended a three-game stretch where Hawkins had scored at least 17 points each night.
I tend to believe her struggles against the Mercury were about the matchup. It's hard to score against Brittney Griner and Brianna Turner. It's hard to score against A'ja Wilson too, but I think this matchup is still a better one for Hawkins.
Myisha Hines-Allen (Washington Mystics) - @ LV - DK: $6,300, FD: $5,600
Playing both Hawkins and Hines-Allen is definitely risky, but if the Aces have another blowout win here, we could see Hawkins and Hines-Allen play some minutes against Cayla George and Alaina Coates, something that might be good for these two Washington forwards from a DFS perspective, even if it isn't good for the Mystics as a team.
Hines-Allen is coming off a strong showing last game, scoring 11 points while adding three rebounds, seven assists, and two steals. She's not nearly as consistent as Hawkins, but she's still a talented player who has flashed some playmaking upside, dishing out four or more assists in three consecutive games.
WNBA DFS Picks: Guard
Sabrina Ionescu (New York Liberty) - vs. CHI - DK: $10,700, FD: $8,200
Ionescu's been on a heater. She's scored 30-plus points in two of the last five games, including putting up 31 on 12-for-19 shooting last time out against Las Vegas. She also added five rebounds, seven assists, and one block.
What makes Ionescu such a strong DFS play is that she usually adds in a good number of rebounds and assists. She's had at least five of both in four of the past five games.
One note that's worrisome: the Sky held Ionescu in check in early June, limiting her to nine points total in two meetings. That was a long time ago though, and the Sky were a pretty different team back then. She's scored in double figures in 14 consecutive games.
Kahleah Copper (Chicago Sky) - @ NY - DK: $8,700, FD: $6,700
Copper has scored 20-plus points in four consecutive games, her longest streak this season of games where she hit that mark. Last time out, she was 9-for-20 against the Lynx with 23 points while adding three rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
She's not adding too much aside from scoring, so a poor shooting night could kill her DFS value. But with how she's been scoring lately, I don't think we can let that concern scare us off, especially at her current salary.
Also of note—she scored 20-plus points in both contests against New York earlier this season. I wrote above that I didn't think those games said a ton about Ionescu's performance in this third meeting. I'll contradict myself here, because I think New York's defense issues are still largely present and are a concern on Friday.
Shatori Walker-Kimbrough (Washington Mystics) - @ LV - DK: $5,400, FD: $4,800
The Mystics have frontcourt injuries, but they also have backcourt injuries, which has given Walker-Kimbrough a lot of minutes. She's played 30-plus minutes in eight consecutive games.
She hasn't really done much consistently with those minutes, but on a two-game slate, I'm more willing to take a risk on a player like Walker-Kimbrough. If she can do something like what she did last time out when she had 10 points against Phoenix and can add a little bit in terms of rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals, there's definitely upside here.
