Fantasy Baseball Impact Of Kevin Kiermaier Being Placed On The 10-Day Injured List

The Toronto Blue Jays placed outfielder Kevin Kiermaier on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday due to a right elbow laceration, per a tweet from the American League East club’s official Twitter account on Tuesday.

Known more for making an impact with his glove work in center field, Kiermaier is having one of his most productive seasons to date so far for Toronto.

In 299 plate appearances, the veteran center fielder is batting .274 with a .336 on-base percentage, five home runs, 11 stolen bases, and a 109 wRC+. If the season were to end today, Kiermaier’s batting average, on-base percentage, and wRC+ would all be the second-best marks of his career in those respective statistical categories.

Per the team’s tweet, Toronto is recalling outfielder Nathan Lukes to take Kiermaier’s spot on the active roster. Lukes has appeared in 25 games for the Blue Jays so far this season, batting .190 with a .280 on-base percentage and a pair of RBI. He’s also hit .333 with a .414 on-base percentage, five home runs, and a pair of stolen bases in 133 plate appearances for Toronto’s Triple-A affiliate.

Fantasy managers are probably better off looking elsewhere for streaming options in the outfield due to Toronto’s depth at the position. Even with Kiermaier on the injured list, the Blue Jays aren’t short of options, with George Springer, Whit Merrifield, Daulton Varsho, and Cavan Biggio all currently on the team’s active roster. Recent call-up Davis Schneider also has some experience in the outfield at Triple-A.
