Cal Quantrill Faces Live Hitters
1 year agoCleveland Guardians right-hander Cal Quantrill (shoulder) was cleared to face live hitters at Double-A Akron on Friday and reported back to Cleveland to see how he bounced back on Saturday. The Guardians are still in the process of determining his next steps. If all is well with the 28-year-old, he should be cleared to begin a minor-league rehab assignment at some point this week. He has been sidelined since July 6 with right-shoulder inflammation, and he probably won't be able to return to the team's starting rotation until later this month. Quantrill should have a spot in the rotation once he's back, but he's had a tough year in 2023 with a 6.45 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and just 38 strikeouts over 13 starts and 67 innings pitched.
