Fantasy Baseball Impact Of The Minnesota Twins Calling Up Dallas Keuchel
Per a tweet from the Minnesota Twins' official Twitter account on Thursday, the American League Central club selected the contract of left-handed starter Dallas Keuchel from Triple-A St. Paul as part of a handful of roster moves.
Minnesota, per the tweet, also placed fellow starter Joe Ryan on the 10-day injured list due to a left groin strain and transferred right-hander Jose De Leon to the 60-day injured list.
Keuchel has made six starts for Minnesota’s Triple-A affiliate this season, finding plenty of success with a 1.13 ERA and a 4.01 FIP in 32 innings of work. The veteran has also struck out 28 batters while limiting opponents to just 12 walks and three home runs.
Last season, the 35-year-old made 14 starts in the Majors, but struggled mightily, posting a 9.20 ERA and a 5.52 FIP in 60.2 innings of work for the Chicago White Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Texas Rangers while striking out 45 batters and walking 31. He also surrendered 11 home runs.
In his career, Keuchel has never been a starter who logs high strikeout numbers. His lifetime strikeout-per-nine-inning rate in 1,588 Major League innings is just 6.90. Considering that, the veteran is likely just a streaming option for fantasy managers in deeper leagues at the moment, though there’s certainly fantasy upside here to utilize Keuchel in the right matchups.
