Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison was the 102nd overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Mattison had an excellent college career, totaling 581 rushing attempts for 2,829 yards and 33 touchdowns at Boise State. He also had 60 receptions for 511 receiving yards and a touchdown in college.
However, Mattison’s NFL career hasn’t been full of fantasy success. The former Boise State star spent the first four years in the league backing up Dalvin Cook. Mattison had 100 rushing attempts for 462 yards and a touchdown as a rookie.
The following year the former third-round pick had similar numbers, totaling 96 rushing attempts for 434 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games. However, Mattison had the best year of his career in 2021 with 134 rushing attempts for 491 yards and three touchdowns, setting new career highs. Unfortunately, he also averaged only 3.7 yards per rushing attempt, the lowest average of his career.

What Did Alexander Mattison Accomplish In 2022?
Surprisingly Cook didn’t miss a game last season, limiting Mattison’s production. The veteran running back had only 74 rushing attempts for 283 yards, both career lows. Yet, the former Boise State star had five rushing touchdowns, a career-high. Furthermore, his five rushing touchdowns were only one fewer than his career total entering the season.
Despite being the No. 2 running back in Minnesota over the first four years of his career, Mattison re-signed with the Vikings this offseason, agreeing to a two-year deal. However, he won’t be the backup running back any longer.
The Vikings released Cook a few weeks ago, making Mattison the clear-cut No. 1 running back on the roster. While many agree he isn’t as talented as Cook, Mattison is a popular fantasy draft pick this year.
Is Alexander Mattison Injured Or Healthy?
Unfortunately, the former Boise State star left yesterday’s practice with an undisclosed injury. Mattison limped off the field toward the end of practice. However, he stayed on the sidelines to watch practice conclude before walking into the locker room.
While the Vikings haven’t given an official update on Mattison, the general belief is that the veteran running back’s injury is minor. Ty Chandler and the rookie DeWayne McBride are the top two backups on the roster if the former Boise State star misses significant time this season.
