Blue Jays Acquire Paul DeJong From Cardinals
1 year agoThe Toronto Blue Jays have acquired infielder Paul DeJong from the St. Louis Cardinals, according to Katie Woo of The Athletic. St. Louis was rumored to be exploring trades of many infielders, and DeJong is the first to go. Interestingly enough, this is the second trade between the Cardinals and Blue Jays in the last week; closer Jordan Hicks was also sent north of the border. DeJong should have an immediate role in Toronto after shortstop Bo Bichette left last night's game with a knee injury. He played 81 games for the Cardinals this year, slashing .233/.297/.412 with 13 homers, 6.9 BB%, and 28.4 K%. The 29-year-old is an above-average defender with 9.0 dWAR and 8.0 OAA in 2023. With that said, he lacks fantasy appeal for the time being.
