Is Jonathan Taylor Injured Or Healthy?
Last year Taylor missed six games and left others early because of numerous ankle injuries. The superstar suffered a season-ending high ankle sprain in the Week 15 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. He had offseason ankle surgery in January. While the team held him out of minicamp, fantasy players had no reason to think the superstar wouldn't be ready for Week 1.
However, Taylor started training camp on the Physical Unable to Perform list because of the ankle surgery. Some believe the running back is actually healthy and using the injury to hold out in hopes of landing a long-term contract.
Unfortunately, news that Taylor suffered a back injury surfaced yesterday. The Colts are reportedly considering placing the superstar running back on the Non-Football Injury list because of the reported back injury. However, Taylor denies those reports.
Should I Draft Jonathan Taylor?
The biggest topic around the NFL over the past few weeks has been the running back market. Several players are unhappy with the situation, including Taylor, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract.
Yet, owner Jim Irsay has refused to offer the superstar a long-term deal. The lack of contract talks has led to Taylor requesting a trade. However, Irsay says the team won’t consider trading the former Wisconsin star.
While fantasy players are worried this could lead to Taylor sitting out the 2023 season, that is unlikely. The superstar must play this year to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. Hopefully, this situation will work itself out over the next few weeks. However, fantasy players should be willing to spend a top-10 pick on Taylor if he is ready for Week 1.
