New York Jets running back Breece Hall was the first back taken in the 2022 NFL Draft. The rookie showed his explosiveness right away, and through seven weeks, Hall had 99 touches for 681 yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns.
However, in Week 7, Hall suffered a season-ending torn ACL and missed the remainder of the year. The former Iowa State star definitely showed a lot of promise in his first NFL season in seven games.
Will Hall be ready by Week 1? What is his fantasy football outlook? Let's dive in.
Will Breece Hall Be Ready By Week 1?
Hall and the Jets remain optimistic that the running back will be ready for Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills, but there's also a chance the young 22-year-old star will miss the start of the regular season in 2023.
For starters, Hall has entered training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. On top of that, though, he is expected to be out of practice for a couple more weeks. With the Jets' first game coming on Monday, September 11, the running back has approximately 41 days to build back up.
It might be tough to see Hall play in Week 1 since he won't practice for a couple more weeks. There are, of course, plenty of hurdles that he must clear before returning to the field. But it's a good sign the running back is already cutting without any issues this early in training camp.
Breece Hall 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook
Selecting Hall early in fantasy drafts in 2023 might be risky. He could miss the beginning of the season – even though the team is confident he won't – and if he suits up in Week 1, he might not be highly efficient. Running backs usually take time to get back to full speed following an ACL injury.
Look at New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley and Baltimore Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins. After tearing his ACL in 2020, Barkley was only the RB30 in fantasy in 2021 before breaking back onto the scene last season. Dobbins was also great as a rookie and struggled last year as he worked his back from his gruesome injury.
The team is also interested in signing veteran Dalvin Cook to the roster. If the four-time Pro Bowler does wind up in New York, Hall's value would immediately suffer. Overall, spending a high draft pick on him in 2023 might be difficult, but he has such a high ceiling that it might be worth it.
