Dustin Poirier Unsuccessful In Bid To Capture BMF Title
1 year agoFormer interim champions Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje clashed at UFC 291 inside the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Saturday Poirier and Gaethje first met inside the Octagon back in 2018, with Poirier winning that fight via fourth-round TKO. Unfortunately for Poirier, things didn't go his way this time. Poirier performed well in the opening round against Gaethje, damaging Gaethje's left eye. In the second round, Gaethje surprised Poirier with a right high kick that slept Poirier up and secured Gaethje a lightweight title shot. In six minutes of action, Poirier landed 27 significant strikes. Poirier remains one of the top-ranked contenders in the lightweight division and is still just one or two big wins away from earning a third crack at undisputed UFC gold.
