Nestor Cortes Making Another Rehab Start Friday
1 year agoNew York Yankees left-hander Nestor Cortes (shoulder) is making another minor-league rehab start on Friday for Double-A Somerset. Manager Aaron Boone said the team will likely have Cortes throw in another rehab game before they activate him from the injured list. The 28-year-old southpaw made his first rehab start last Sunday and gave up a run on four hits while striking out four in 2 1/3 innings for Somerset. As long as he doesn't have any setbacks in his final two rehab starts, Cortes could return to the team's starting rotation in early August. Cortes hasn't pitched for the Yankees since May 30 and was 5-2 with a 5.16 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 59 strikeouts in 59 1/3 innings (11 starts) at the time of his injury. He could be an option for those in deep-mixed leagues once he's back.
