Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson was the 66th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He had a productive college career, totaling 135 receptions for 2,235 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns in three years at Toledo.
Johnson had a solid rookie season with 59 receptions on 92 targets for 680 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Furthermore, he led the team in receptions, targets, and receiving touchdowns while finishing second in yards. The following year the former Toledo star had 88 receptions on 144 targets for 923 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
More importantly, Johnson had a third-year breakout in 2021. The veteran wide receiver had 107 receptions on 169 targets for 1,161 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, all career highs. Furthermore, he finished fifth in the NFL in receptions, second in targets, and 10th in receiving yards that season.

Is Diontae Johnson Injured Or Healthy?
The veteran wide receiver left practice early today with an apparent injury. Johnson started to walk off the field before the cart came out to take him the rest of the way. While the fantasy football community and Steeler fans nearly had a heart attack, the former Toledo star is fine.
Head coach Mike Tomlin said Johnson was one of several players to leave practice early today with heat-related issues. The veteran wide receiver is healthy and ready to go.
Should I Draft Diontae Johnson?
Thankfully the former Toledo star is healthy. Unfortunately, Johnson is coming off the worst season of his career in 2022. Last year the veteran was the WR39, averaging 8.1 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. Johnson had 86 receptions on 147 targets for 882 receiving yards last season. However, he didn’t have a single touchdown.
The veteran wide receiver is unlikely to have another season without finding the end zone ever again in his career. Yet, the lack of touchdown production crushed Johnson’s fantasy value. Over the first three years of his career, the former Toledo star averaged 6.7 touchdowns per season. Had Johnson scored six touchdowns in 2022, he would have been a WR2 for fantasy players.
While the veteran wide receiver had a disappointing performance last year, fantasy players should target Johnson this season. Despite playing with Mitch Trubisky and a rookie quarterback, the former Toledo star finished seventh in the NFL with 147 targets. With Kenny Pickett heading into his second year in the league, don’t be surprised when Johnson returns to his old self.
