Free agent running back Dalvin Cook was the 41st overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. The veteran running back had an excellent college career, totaling 687 rushing attempts for 4,464 yards and 46 touchdowns at Florida State. He also had 79 receptions for 935 receiving yards and two touchdowns in his college career.
Unfortunately, Cook’s rookie year got ruined by a torn ACL. He had 74 rushing attempts for 354 yards and two touchdowns before getting hurt. The young running back also dealt with injuries in 2018, missing five contests. However, things turned around starting the following season.
Cook made the first pro bowl of his career in 2019, finishing the year with 250 rushing attempts for 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns. More importantly, the veteran running back has had at least 1,100 rushing yards each of the past four years, including a career-high 1,557 yards in 2020.

What Did Dalvin Cook Accomplish In 2022?
Last year Cook had 264 rushing attempts for 1,173 yards and eight touchdowns. The veteran running back also had 39 receptions on 56 targets for 295 receiving yards and two touchdowns in 2022. More importantly, the former Florida State star didn’t miss a game last year for the first time in his career.
While Cook was the RB10 last year, averaging 12.8 half-point PPR fantasy points per game, the veteran showed signs of decline. He averaged 4.4 yards per rushing attempt, a career-low. Furthermore, Cook had 11.3% of his rushing attempts last season go for 10 or more yards. By comparison, 14.4% of his rushing attempts were for 10 or more yards the year before.
Is Dalvin Cook A Good Fit For The Jets?
The Vikings released Cook earlier this offseason. While the veteran has been a free agent for a few weeks, he isn’t in a rush to sign with a new team. However, the former Florida State star will reportedly visit with the New York Jets this weekend.
New York has a talented young running back on the roster – Breece Hall. However, the former Iowa State star suffered a torn ACL last year. Furthermore, he started training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list. If the Jets sign Cook, it suggests the team believes Hall won’t be ready for Week 1.
Unfortunately, that is bad news for fantasy players. At some point, Hall and Cook will be on the active roster together this season, limiting each other’s fantasy upside.
