WNBA DFS Picks: Forward
Nneka Ogwumike (Los Angeles Sparks) - vs. IND - DK: $11,200, FD: $8,400
Ogwumike put up 30 points on Tuesday against this same Fever team, going 11-for-24 from the floor. She grabbed eight rebounds and also added three assists, one block, and two steals in the contest.
For how well Ogwumike has played this season, it's a little surprising this was her first game with 30 points this season, as her 20.1 points per game currently rank sixth in the league in scoring. The Fever just didn't have an answer for the former WNBA MVP though, and it's hard to see them having an answer on Thursday either.
Jonquel Jones (New York Liberty) - vs. ATL - DK: $10,100, FD: $7,300
Jones posted her third consecutive double-double on Tuesday against the Storm, scoring 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting and pulling down 17 rebounds. She also added two assists, one block, and one steal.
After a bit of a slow start to her Liberty tenure, Jones is on fire. In eight games this month, Jones has averaged 13.9 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, both her highest monthly marks of the season.
Up next is Atlanta. Jones had 18 points and nine rebounds in just 24 minutes when these last met back in June. The sky's the limit tonight for Jones, who is a huge mismatch for this Dream squad to deal with.
Amanda Zahui B. (Indiana Fever) - @ LA - DK: $3,900, FD: $4,100
I genuinely hate Thursday's slate. There's just not really a lot of good mid-range or value options, which leaves me returning to Amanda Zahui B. for the second game in a row, even though she disappointed in 14 minutes last game, going 0-for-4 from the floor and scoring just one point. She did boost her value a little with six rebounds and a pair of blocks.
But with Zahui B. playing double-digit minutes in three straight games and the Fever being really shallow in the frontcourt behind Aliyah Boston, I think there's still some value here. She's taken 12 shots over the last two games; it's just that she's only gone 2-for-12. I wouldn't say the volume is "there," but there's enough of it that you can kind of use Zahui B. as a punt play and hope she can have a solid showing.
WNBA DFS Picks: Guard
Jordin Canada (Los Angeles Sparks) - vs. IND - DK: $9,500, FD: $6,900
Jordin Canada was just unstoppable when these same teams met on Tuesday, so I say we ride the hot hand here and rely on Canada to be the top guard for our DFS lineup. Sabrina Ionescu and Rhyne Howard are good plays as well, but I think Canada brings a little more value to the table, which helps with lineup-building.
In that game, Canada scored 20 points on 7-for-13 shooting and was 3-for-5 from three. She also added four rebounds, one block, and three steals while dishing out 10 assists, leading to her first double-double of the season. Canada's filling up the stat sheet right now.
Betnijah Laney (New York Liberty) -vs. ATL - DK: $7,600, FD: $5,900
I mentioned Jonquel Jones having a slow start above. Her Liberty teammate, Betnijah Laney, also had a slow start to the season. Back in May, she averaged just 5.8 points per game.
But she's played a lot better since, and she enters Thursday with double-digit points in five straight games. That includes two stellar outings lately. On July 23, she scored a season-high 22 points on 9-for-13 shooting against the Fever, and then last time out she followed that up with 19 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals in a win over Seattle.
Now, Laney takes on an Atlanta team that allows the fourth-most points per game in the WNBA. This should be a good spot for Laney.
Victoria Vivians (Indiana Fever) - @ LA - DK: $7,500, FD: $6,000
Feels like nothing in the WNBA has been as confusing as the wing rotation for the Fever. Victoria Vivians was basically out of the rotation at points this year, including a six-game stretch in June and July where she never played more than 15 minutes.
But she's now played 20-plus minutes in four straight and has scored in double figures in three consecutive contests. Last time out against the Sparks, Vivians scored 17 points on 6-for-11 shooting in 28 minutes and also added six rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
