Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams was the 12th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. The Lions selected Aidan Hutchinson with the second overall pick last year, their first draft selection.
However, the team traded up during the NFL Draft with the Minnesota Vikings to pick Williams. Detroit found a star in Amon-Ra St. Brown in 2021 and believes the first-round wide receiver can be his running mate for the next several years.
Williams had a limited college career. He caught only 15 passes for 266 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 10 games at Ohio State. However, the young receiver transferred to Alabama in 2021 and became a star. Williams had 79 receptions for 1,572 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns that season, finishing first in the SEC in receiving yards and touchdowns.

What Did Jameson Williams Accomplish In 2022?
Unfortunately, the Alabama star suffered a torn ACL in the National Championship Game. Thankfully the injury didn’t hurt his draft stock too much. While some believed Williams would have been the first wide receiver drafted if healthy, he was still a top-12 selection.
However, his rookie year was a massive disappointment. The former Alabama star only played in six contests, totaling one reception on nine targets for 41 receiving yards. However, Williams’ only reception last year resulted in an impressive touchdown for the Lions.
The rookie receiver also had one rushing attempt for 40 yards last season. While the numbers were disappointing, the team had low expectations for the former Alabama star coming off the torn ACL. Yet, the Lions have high hopes for Williams in 2023.
Is Jameson Williams Injured Or Healthy?
However, the second-year will miss the first six games this season after violating the NFL’s gambling policy. Hopefully, Williams can hit the ground running when he returns in Week 7.
Unfortunately, the former Alabama star is dealing with a leg injury and will miss training camp time. While he should be fine for the regular season, seeing Williams miss meaningful practice reps after his limited rookie year is far from ideal.
Thankfully, the leg injury isn’t severe. However, the six-game suspension makes Williams hard to draft this season. Unless fantasy players have a deep bench, they should avoid drafting the second-year receiver.
