Darnell Mooney Injury Update For Fantasy Football
Mooney (ankle) has been cleared to practice ahead of the start of training camp, according to general manager Ryan Poles. Mooney caught 40 passes for 493 yards and two touchdowns last season before suffering a broken ankle in Week 12 against the New York Jets. Mooney's clean bill of health this early in the offseason is a good sign, but his fantasy output has a wide range of outcomes in 2023.

Where To Draft Darnell Mooney
Chicago added DJ Moore to be its No. 1 wide receiver, and the team will still likely have a run-first mindset this season. Justin Fields is also an unproven passer, so it remains to be seen if he can support multiple high-end fantasy pass-catchers. For now, Mooney will carry a boom-or-bust outlook and is best suited for best ball formats.
Mooney's half-PPR ADP is just outside the top 55 wide receivers, so he's a fine bench depth fantasy wideout at that cost. While the Bears' are unlikely to have a great passing offense and Moore is the No. 1 wide receiver, Mooney could benefit from being moved to a more natural role as a field-stretching WR2.
All that said, it will be tough for him to be a consistent producer capable of being a locked-in starter every week. He could be a solid streaming option in favorable matchups where Chicago will likely have to pass to keep up, but there's a good chance he's a frustrating player to roster in traditional "start 'em, sit 'em leagues."
