FPL Team Previews: Tottenham Hotspur
After pipping Arsenal to a Champions League spot in the prior season, it all came crumbling down for Spurs. Antonio Conte's demeanor eventually got old, and he was dismissed in the middle of the season. Son Heung-min was a shell of his former self, summer-signing Richarlison scored one Premier League goal, and Harry Kane was the only one to step up to the challenge in a Spurs shirt. The England captain may be off to the Bundesliga, and Spurs will be left in a world of uncertainty.
Last Year's Spurs Stats
- League Finish: Eighth, 60 points
- Most goals: Harry Kane, 30 goals
- Most assists: Harry Kane, Nine assists
- Most FPL Points: Harry Kane, 263 points
Who is your favorite Spurs defender for the upcoming FPL campaign?
- Pedro Porro (£5.5 million) came on at the end of the year. In 13 games, the Spanish defender racked up three goals and three assists. He was everything Spurs fans wanted Ivan Perisic to be, except he's 10 years younger and fits well with the squad. I expect him to return this season and do bigger and better things for Tottenham.
Which Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is catching your eye?
- James Maddison joined the North London club from Leicester City over the summer and is incredibly interesting for FPL. The 26-year-old was fantastic in his previous two seasons for the Foxes and will now bring that to Spurs. The talent around him is a significant upgrade and should only boost the 10 assists he's averaged over the last two campaigns. Even if Harry Kane leaves, Maddison's shown us he can take on a talismanic role for a club before, so all the arrows are pointing up.

The Spurs forward who will be bagging us some FPL points is...?
- Hopefully, Harry Kane. The England forward's contract runs out at the end of the year, and Spirs don't want to lose him for free. It appears his preferred destination is Bayern Munich in Germany. If he leaves, there's a massive hole in the club and on the pitch. However, Richarlison could start the healing, and he is a £7 million out-of-position midfielder in this year's game. If Kane leaves, his Brazilian teammate will land in many of our Gameweek 1 squads.
What run of fixtures favors Spurs the most for the 2023/24 FPL season?
- Unfortunately, Tottenham doesn't have a steady stream of great fixtures throughout the season. However, Gameweeks 15-20 look kind, with four home fixtures in six weeks. Four of those matches come against teams that will be or were, battling relegation. Newcastle United at home will be a tough test in that run of fixtures, as will Brighton on the road.
How many Spurs players will you have in your FPL Gameweek 1 squad?
- If Harry Kane stays, he will be a candidate to double-barrel the forward line with Erling Haaland. However, Spurs will be a wait-and-see squad for me outside of him. Their new manager, Ange Postecoglou, has an attacking style that thrived in the Scottish Premier League, but I'll want to see it transfer to the world's biggest stage before trusting my FPL assets in the new system.
What is one bold FPL prediction for any Spurs player?
- Pedro Porro finishes the season as a top-five defender and the highest-scoring Spurs player in Fantasy Premier League. He has the tools, and the system, to become a must-have asset in our squads.
