Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was the 62nd overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. The former Eastern Illinois quarterback barely saw the field in New England, throwing only 94 pass attempts for 690 yards and five touchdowns in three years with the team.
The Patriots traded Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers in 2017. The young quarterback spent the past six years with the 49ers. His best season came in 2019, leading the team to a 13-3 record. Furthermore, he completed 69.1% of his pass attempts for 3,978 yards and 27 touchdowns, all career highs.
However, the 49ers traded up before the 2021 NFL Draft to select Trey Lance. While the rookie didn't replace Garoppolo as the starter that year, things changed in 2022.

What Did Jimmy Garoppolo Accomplish In 2022?
Last year San Francisco named Lance the Week 1 starter. While Garoppolo was the subject of trade rumors for months, the veteran returned to the team and became the backup quarterback. Unfortunately, Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2, making Garoppolo the starter again.
Garoppolo had a productive 2022 season, completing 67.2% of his pass attempts for 2,437 yards and 16 touchdowns in 11 games. He also added 23 rushing attempts for 33 yards and two touchdowns last season.
Unfortunately, the veteran quarterback suffered a foot injury in Week 13, forcing him to miss the rest of the year. Brock Purdy replaced Garoppolo under center and appears to be the team’s Week 1 starter in 2023. Therefore, it’s no surprise that the veteran left in free agency.
Is Jimmy Garoppolo Worth Drafting As Your QB2 In Superflex Leagues?
After spending the past six years with the 49ers, Garoppolo signed with the Raiders this offseason. However, there were concerns about the quarterback’s healthy. Earlier this offseason, many were worried that the veteran wouldn’t be ready for Week 1 because of the foot injury. Thankfully, Garoppolo passed his physical and will be ready for training camp.
While the Raiders are excited to have the veteran quarterback ready for Week 1, should fantasy players draft Garoppolo? The former Patriot has never finished the year higher than the QB14 in his career. Furthermore, he has only two career top-24 finishes, with the last coming in 2021.
Typically all 32 NFL starting quarterbacks get drafted in superflex leagues. Therefore, Garoppolo should get drafted. Yet, fantasy players should target a better option to be their QB2 than the veteran.
