Nolan Gorman, Lars Nootbaar Out Against Lefty
Nolan Gorman and outfielder Lars Nootbaar are both out of Friday's lineup against left-hander Justin Steele and the division-rival Chicago Cubs. Jose Fermin will get the start at second base and bat in the nine-hole, while Andrew Knizner gets the start behind the plate and bats eighth. Willson Contreras will serve as the designated hitter and bat cleanup. Dylan Carlson is starting in center field and batting leadoff. Gorman is hitting a decent .257 (9-for-35) against lefties in 2023, but he has only two of his 19 homers against them. Meanwhile, Nootbaar is hitting only .214 (12-for-56) against southpaws with no home runs and six RBI. Carlson will be a sneaky DFS play on Friday out of the leadoff spot. He's gone 17-for-58 (.293) against lefties this year.

Nolan Gorman Back In Lineup After Suffering Finger Laceration
Nolan Gorman (finger) suffered a left index-finger laceration in the second inning of the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday against the New York Mets when Willson Contreras stepped on his glove hand. The 24-year-old was checked by a trainer and remained in the contest before eventually being removed in the ninth inning for a defensive replacement. Gorman is back at second base and is hitting sixth in Monday's series opener against the division-rival Pittsburgh Pirates and right-hander Carmen Mlodzinski after he sat out of Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader. The former first-rounder (19th overall) in 2018 has been a non-factor for fantasy managers so far in 2025, as he's hitting just .167 (10-for-60) with a homer, nine RBI, nine runs scored and 21 strikeouts in 20 games played.

Nolan Gorman Retreats To The Bench Against Mets
Nolan Gorman is not in the team's starting lineup Saturday's contest against the visiting New York Mets at Busch Stadium. Alec Burleson will draw into the lineup at first base and will hit sixth against Mets right-hander Tylor Megill. Gorman has been awful at the plate to start the 2025 season, slashing just .185/.292/.333 with a home runs, eight RBI, nine runs scored, nine walks and 19 strikeouts in 18 games played. The 24-year-old left-handed hitter has gone hitless in his last 13 at-bats with three walks and five strikeouts in his last five games. If he doesn't pick it up soon, he could find himself on the bench more often. Burleson is a mediocre DFS sleeper consideration on Saturday against a pitcher he has never faced. The 26-year-old lefty is still searching for his first homer of the season while slashing .256/.304/.291 with six RBI, two steals and seven runs scored.

Nolan Gorman Expected To See More Playing Time
Nolan Gorman is expected to be given more playing time for the time being. Gorman played the hero during their victory over the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday evening when he hit a three-run double. As a result, the team will reward him with more opportunities, especially with Brandon Donovan (rib) sidelined. Gorman was batting third and covering second base during Wednesday's contest against the Braves. After holding a modest .217/.321/.435 slash line with two doubles and one home run over his first eight games of the campaign, Gorman has tallied at least one hit in each of his previous three games, entering Wednesday's contest. Under the hood, he has generated an impressive .370 xwOBA, which suggests he could continue to see steady positive regression. If he continues to play well, he could even take reps at DH when Donovan returns to action.

Nolan Gorman Activated Off Injured List
Nolan Gorman (hamstring) has been activated off the 10-day injured list. In a corresponding move, the Cardinals placed shortstop Masyn Winn (back) on the 10-day injured list. Gorman has been sidelined since early April with this injury. Through his first five games of the campaign, the second baseman tallied four hits with one double and a home run. He held a 1:1 BB:K. Gorman is not in Saturday's starting lineup as the Cardinals are facing a southpaw in Cristopher Sanchez. However, fantasy managers should expect Gorman to see playing against right-handed pitching. Last summer, the 24-year-old struggled as he held a .203/.271/.400 slash line. He is worth a look as a power target in deeper 15+ team formats.
