1 year agoThe Arizona Diamondbacks placed right-hander Zach Davies (back) on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday with lower-back inflammation and recalled left-hander Joe Mantiply from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. The back injury probably had something to do with Davies allowing nine earned runs while walking three in just 3 2/3 innings against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night. The poor performance dropped the 30-year-old to 1-5 on the season with a rough 7.38 ERA (4.69 FIP), 1.62 WHIP, 27 walks and only 46 strikeouts in 57 1/3 innings over 12 starts in his second season in the desert. The soft-tossing Davies just doesn't have enough strikeout upside to be valuable in many mixed fantasy leagues.
