Angels Sign First-Rounder Nolan Schanuel
1 year agoThe Los Angeles Angels signed first-round rookie first baseman Nolan Schanuel to a $5.253 million deal on Thursday, which is the slot value for the 11th overall pick of the MLB draft. The 21-year-old hit an absurd .447/.615/.868 with 19 home runs, 64 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 59 games in his final collegiate season at Florida Atlantic in 2023. He isn't an extremely athletic prospect, but he generates a ton of leverage and contact with great bat speed. Schanuel was one of the best pure hitting prospects in this year's draft, but it will be interesting to see how he fares against better competition once he gets into pro ball this summer.
