A's Planning To Promote Zack Gelof To Big Leagues On Friday
1 year agoThe Oakland Athletics are adding No. 3 prospect Zack Gelof to their 40-man roster and are planning to call him up in time for Friday's series opener against the Minnesota Twins to kick off the start of the second half of the season, according to a source. With Gelof being promoted, the A's are also promoting No. 14 prospect Darell Hernaiz from Double-A to Triple-A Las Vegas. Gelof gets the promotion after hitting .304/.401/.529 with a .929 OPS, 12 home runs, 21 doubles, a triple, 44 RBI, 20 stolen bases and 60 runs scored in 308 plate appearances over 69 games in Vegas. The 23-year-old should take over as the team's starting second baseman, so he's worth a waiver-wire addition in deep-mixed leagues. Gelof has an intriguing combination of an advanced approach at the plate and exciting raw power, but the lowly A's will likely keep his fantasy floor somewhat low in his first taste of the big leagues.
