Trey Palmer Impresses Bucs Coaches This Offseason
1 year agoTampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Trey Palmer was selected with the 191st overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, but Buccaneers wide receiver coach Brad Idzik said he was surprised he lasted on the board so long. "We were ecstatic to have him," said Idzik. "Anytime you have a guy with that much speed all you're trying to do is make sure he plays with that speed every single snap." Palmer has a chance to be the team's No. 3 wide receiver, but he'll have to beat out Russell Gage to do so. Idzik alluded to Palmer potentially being utilized as the team's field stretcher. To be able to stretch the field vertically from inside -- that helps us," Idzik said. "That helps us with Chris [Godwin], that helps us with Mike [Evans], that helps us with whoever else is on the field... with Cade Otton... even the running game. If you want to run it through the middle of the field, those 'backers have to carry three-vertical, that's real steep." The 22-year-old wideout posted 1,043 yards and nine touchdowns at Nebraska last season and displayed his blazing speed with a 4.33 40-yard dash time in the pre-draft process. He could be an intriguing late-round best ball option if things break right for him during training camp.
