2 years agoDetroit Lions rookie quarterback Hendon Hooker (knee), who was taken in the third round of this year's NFL draft, said his rehab is "progressing really well." Hooker wasn't fully cleared for the team's organized team activities in May and June after suffering a torn ACL in his final collegiate game on Nov. 19 of last year. "I'm really just taking it day-by-day and continuing to build my body back up to where I want it to be and even better," Hooker said. The 25-year-old threw 58 TDs and only five interceptions in two years at Tennessee and broke Peyton Manning's school records for completion percentage and passing efficiency. Hooker may be the future under center in Detroit, but he's headed for a redshirt year in his rookie campaign behind starter Jared Goff as he continues to recover from his torn ACL.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

7 months agoDetroit Lions quarterback Hendon Hooker completed 12 of 20 passes for 114 yards and one touchdown in the preseason game on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 26-year-old also rushed the ball 10 times for an impressive 93 yards. This sounds like an almost flawless performance until you realize the second-year player lost the ball three times between one interception and two fumbles, one of which was recovered by the Lions. Hooker had an overall good performance and took over 70% of the snaps at quarterback, only giving the ball up in the fourth quarter to Jake Fromm. 21 of the team's 24 total points were scored while Hooker was on the field. Hooker has a very high ceiling and remains a dynasty stash while he continues to improve.--Jacob Billingslea

7 months agoDetroit Lions quarterback Hendon Hooker completed 12 of 15 passes for 150 yards in Saturday’s preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday. The 26-year-old also rushed five times for 11 yards, including a seven-yard touchdown. Hooker did lose a costly fumble late in the game but otherwise looked calm throughout his time on the field. As of now, Hooker's performance and higher ceiling give him the edge for the backup quarterback position over Nate Sudfeld, though both players had poor performances in their first preseason games last week. Hooker remains a dynasty stash for now and will look to improve on Saturday’s performance in the preseason finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers.--Jacob Billingslea

8 months agoDetroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell believes quarterback Hendon Hooker (concussion) is trending toward playing in the team's second preseason game against Kansas City on Saturday. The reserve quarterback suffered a concussion during Detroit's preseason opener against the Giants. Last week was the preseason debut for Hooker, who missed all of his rookie campaign recovering from a torn ACL. The 2023 third-round pick is competing with veteran Nate Sudfeld for the second-string job behind Jared Goff.--Andrew Ball - RotoBaller

8 months agoDetroit Lions quarterback Hendon Hooker (head) is in concussion protocol, and head coach Dan Campbell said the 26-year-old is unlikely to return to practice until at least Friday. Hooker, a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Tennessee, played in his first preseason game on Thursday after missing his entire rookie campaign following a torn ACL in his final collegiate season. He completed five of his nine passing attempts for 36 yards and led the team with 34 rushing yards before getting banged up against the New York Giants. While he should have plenty of time to be ready for Week 1, missing practice time as he tries to beat out Nate Sudfeld for the QB2 role behind Jared Goff is far from ideal. The team signed veteran quarterback Jake Fromm on Monday, which could be a sign that Hooker won't play this weekend against the Kansas City Chiefs.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBaller
